Study best practices for emergency care planning

The Best Practice Intervention Package for Emergency Care Planning is now available on www.homehealthquality.org.

The Best Practice Intervention Package is available for download in separate tracks as well as full contents. Download Full Contents if you prefer to view the entire package in hardcopy before deciding which/how many Tracks to use. The Tracks may be downloaded if you are only using a specific track(s) or if you would like to save the individual track and email the tracks to staff.

The Fast Track version must be downloaded separately from the Full Contents version.

The patient emergency plan is available in a modifiable version. (Just scroll down the Web page) It is available as a Word document, along with separate postings of the emergency care planning posters (PDF), audio recordings contained in the Emergency Care Planning package and the Emergency Care Planning WebEx.

There is FREE CNEs available beginning with the Emergency Care Planning Best Practice Intervention Package for Registered Nurses only. The evaluation and post-test are available on www.homehealthquality.org on the same page as the Emergency Care Planning Best Practice Intervention Package.

Mobility in Action Cards (PDF)
Home health agencies can use these cards to educate staff, patients, and caregivers interventions to improve mobility. The cards are separated into five categories. Each set has a different focus:

  • Gold: highlights posture tips
  • Purple: designates mobility in action
  • Green: focuses on making exercise a regular part the day
  • Orange: offers facts, called "Did you know?" that support a healthy lifestyle
  • Blue: reminds providers, patients, and family members to encourage patient independence by not being too quick to help

A WIKIPEDIA-STYLE SITE FOR MEDICAL INFORMATION?

March 29, 2007 -- Cleveland Plain Dealer -- Think of it as a librarian with a stethoscope. Four doctors at the Cleveland Clinic are drawing international attention with a medical version of Wikipedia, the popular online encyclopedia that anyone can edit. This version is called Ask Dr. Wiki. The public can access it, but the information is pretty technical and healthcare professionals are the biggest users. Read more >>

WAL-MART AND PARTNERS CREATE HEALTH-IT RESEARCH CENTER

March 28, 2007 -- Information Week -- Wal-Mart on Wednesday joined up with the University of Arkansas and Blue Cross Blue Shield to create a new research center to investigate ways of improving health care delivery through IT. Wal-Mart is donating $1 million over five years to fund the new Center for Innovation in Health Care Logistics, which will be located at the university. Read more >>

 

REPORT: OHIO BIG SPENDER FOR NURSING HOME CARE

April 2, 2007 -- Cincinnati Business Journal -- Ohio is increasing its investment in at-home care for seniors with disabilities, but it still spends more per capita on nursing home care than 41 states, the Scripps Gerontology Center at Miami University reports.

NURSING HOMES COSTING OHIO

April 3, 2007 -- Columbus Dispatch -- A new report on the cost of long-term care says Ohio's Medicaid program is spending more on costly nursing home care than most states. At the same time, Ohio is spending less than almost every other state on home care services, though the state's popular PASSPORT program has grown considerably in recent years. PASSPORT provides home care services to Medicaid-eligible Ohioans age 60 or older. Read more >>
