Best practice intervention package: fall prevention

Welcome to the ninth Best Practice Intervention Package (BPIP). This month's topic is Fall Prevention.

VIDEO: TIMED UP AND GO VIDEO POWERPOINT New!

This 9-minute PowerPoint with video provides education for clinicians related to performing this simple screening to assist with identifying patients at high risk for falling.

View the Timed Up and Go Video PowerPoint (PPS). Use this option to view the video on your computer. This will link you directly to the video via the Internet. You cannot save it from this link. For users that do not have PowerPoint: Free PowerPoint viewer.

Note: If you are having difficulty viewing the above PPS file, please proceed to the next option to download the ZIP file and save to your hard drive.

Download all the files for the Timed Up and Go Video PowerPoint (ZIP). Use this option to download the files and save to your hard drive, a CD or Flash Drive.

  1. Right click on all the files for the Timed Up and Go Video PowerPoint
  2. Select ”Save Target As” and save. Close when download is complete
  3. Locate folder and right click to extract files (i.e., unzip)
  4. Open the new file that you just saved and select ”Timed Up and Go.pps” to view the video
  5. All files must be copied to hard drive, CD or Flash Drive for video to function

PODCASTS/AUDIO RECORDINGS

Right click on the audio file link below to select "Save Target As..." This will allow you to save the audio recording to your hard drive. You may then listen to the podcast from your computer or burn it to a CD.

EDUCATIONAL WEBEXES

Please read the instructions for downloading the WebEx software. Even if you have previously installed WebEx, you will need to download the software. Once you have installed the software, right click on the WebEx file link below to select "Save Target As..." This will allow you to save the WebEx recording to your hard drive. You may then view the WebEx.

INTRODUCTION TO THE BEST PRACTICE INTERVENTION PACKAGE – FALL PREVENTION

The Fall Prevention WebEx provides a quick overview of this Best Practice Intervention Package. The presentation introduces clinician education resources and many national key tools are highlighted. The WebEx’s purpose is to provide a general overview for leadership of the package and/or for clinicians to learn more about the Best Practice Intervention Packages, specifically Fall Prevention.

CONTINUING EDUCATION

Free 1.3 CNE contact hours available for Registered Nurses and a Certificate of Participation for LPNs/LVNs (NEW) for completing the Nursing Track for the Best Practice Intervention Package: Fall Prevention. An online evaluation/post-test is required after completing the Nursing Track.

Therapists (PT, OT, ST, PTA & COTA) may apply for a certificate of participation – 1.3 continuing education hours. An online evaluation/post-test is required after completing the Therapy Track. PTs, OTs, STs, PTAs & COTAs follow this link.
