-
HF accounts for more than 700,000 hospital admissions each year in people 65 or older
-
US annual expenditures for HF range from $10 - $40 billion dollars
-
The HF one year mortality rate in the elderly is in the range of 20% to 30%
Seven percent of all Medicare discharges carry the primary diagnosis of heart failure. In 2000, that translated into nearly 40,000 discharges. We have proven treatments that can reduce mortality from HF. Yet 8,000 to 12,000 of these patients are dying within 1 year of admission.
